Physicists Group

The IROC Houston physicists are responsible for the on-site dosimetry review visits, are involved in the OSLD/TLD program, credentialing processes, anthropomorphic QA phantom program, education, research, IT guidance, study group interactions and general technical support.

For on-site dosimetry review visits, IROC Houston physicists are responsible for organizing the visit, making dosimetry measurements and the generation of the final report to the institution.

On a daily basis, physicists review all institution OSLD/TLD reports in review credentialing data, analyze the QA phantom data and respond to phone calls regarding many issues such as TG-51 protocol implementation, credentialing, and general dosimetry questions.

Physicists are also responsible for keeping abreast of each study group’s new developments and protocols. This is done by attending all meetings of their assigned study group(s), as well as assisting in protocol development.

Physicists participate as instructors in the department’s annual short courses to medical physicists, dosimetrists and radiation oncology residents. Several physicists are instructors in the specialized M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Medical Physics Program at The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

The IROC Houston physicists work on many different developmental projects related to the IROC Houston quality assurance activities. Presently the IROC Houston has six staff physicists; two at the Ph.D. level and four at the M.S. level.
